Bear's Lair 2007 Chardonnay

You can't beat Bear's Lair prices.  Trader Joe's carries the brand and consistently charges $3.99 a bottle.  The wine is quite good for the price.  But I think that's the key: the price.

I enjoyed the pear notes at the beginning, and the wine slides smoothly across the palate (the faint butteriness comes from being aged in oak barrels).  We had this bottle with an array of take-out; mine was a chicken dish swimming in a lemon-caper sauce.  The sauce definitely overpowered the wine.  My brother's dinner consisted of   a green-chili chicken burrito, and he made the same comment.  So go for something very light with this wine: a large salad or a very lightly seasoned baked white fish may be best.
