Bogle Petite Sirah 2007

Bogle has long been a nice standby for relative value.  I've yet to have a bottle of either their Petite Sirah or Zinfandel I didn't enjoy.
Petite Sirah doesn't engender the same respect as California Cab or Zin, but it should. These wines start with an explosion of fruit - think blackberry jam - which makes them easy to sip by themselves or pair with meals. And this varietal is known for its peppery finish, something I greatly enjoy in a my full-bodied reds (and which is often missing from a Pinot Noir).  Bogle stands up nicely to wines twice the price, which is one of the reasons I'm raving about it.

Another reason to love Bogle is its proximity to Lodi, that divine place of some exceptional old vine Zinfandels.  So not everyone's lucky enough to have land in Lodi (though some of their grapes are sourced from there - hence it's yumminess), but Bogle's close, and the grapes love their terroir.  The vineyard is in a town called Clarksburg, which is near Sacramento (think hotter and drier than the valleys to the south).

For $8, it's a good buy.  I picked my bottle up at Sunflower Market, but it's readily available at most grocery stores.
