Fife Sonoma County Zinfandel

Trader Joe's offered this wine on its end cap display (as a marketer, it frustrates me that these work - on me!).  I'd read about this wine awhile back and knew the 2003 was selling for $30.  With the 2007 bottles at a very affordable $7, I simply had to try it.

I love the color of this wine.  It's a deep burgundy.  The first sniff is full of cherries and maybe some cedar.  There's some kick to this wine from the pepper (thank you, tannins), which matches up well to the jammy plum that settles onto your tongue immediately.  Fife makes a point to make wines that are "food friendly."  Basically, that means the wine will not overpower a dish.  As long as its a rich meat, barbecue or a hearty tomato-based sauce.  I actually like this wine - oddly enough - with Trader Joe's Apple Chardonnay Chicken Sausage and pasta.

I really suggest you try this one.  The TJ price (as opposed to the $28.99 MSRP)
is really, really good for a wine of this quality.

Salut!
