I've been looking into health coverage for my family for years.  Without a viable - and affordable - plan, we are not able to opt for the full-time small business option.  Why? We cannot afford health benefits.  We, like most Americans, are in no position to be without insurance. Medical bill currently account for a whopping number of bankruptcies each yes, and we do not wish to be the next statistic.

I'm going to highlight some of the major issues I have with single family policies here. 

Exclusions consist of the following, but are not limited to:

THE REST DOESN'T REALLY MATTER.  BASICALLY, THE INSURANCE POLICY COVERS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE. PERIOD.

No Maternity Coverage             WHAT IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT? TOO DAMN BAD. IT'S NOT COVERED.  NOW YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THOSE PRENATAL VISITS - THAT YOU MUST PAY FOR OUT-OF-POCKET - AND WHETHER OR NOT TO EAT WELL TO FEED YOUR UNBORN CHILD.

Preventive Care / Wellness / Routine Physical             Available after being insured by the plan for one year.

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A PAP SMEAR OR A PHYSICAL FOR ONE YEAR.

Doctor's Office Visits             Subject to the plan deductible and coinsurance unless the optional Office Visit Copay is selected. The optional $35 Office Visit Copay is available at an additional cost for most plans and includes 4 network office visits per covered person per calendar year.

WHAT?!!! I HAVE TO PAY MORE TO GET A COPAY OPTION? AND I CAN ONLY GO 4 TIMES PER YEAR? ANYONE WITH A CHILD CAN TELL YOU ABOUT GOING 4 TIMES IN A MONTH!

I heard a senator from Oklahoma talking yesterday about how a government health care plan would bankrupt the nation.  Right now, health care is only bankrupting hundred of thousands of Americans.  I guess he feels like that's a much better option.  So much for compassion or trying to help out one's fellow man.  I don't care if health care is run by the government or private insurers.  I really don't.  I do care - deeply - that health care is affordable AND COVERS ALL AREAS OF ONE'S HEALTH. That means my teeth and eyes as well as preventive care and vaccinations.  Every other major Western government has managed to do so.  But we tout our health care system as cutting edge.  What apathetic joke.  And it's on you and me - never the insurance companies.
