Chime 07 Pinot Noir

My very first glass of Pinot Noir was off.  That was about 10 years ago. When I told my brother I was less than enthusiastic about the varietal, he said he and his wife had recently opened a bottle of Oregon Pinot that reminded him too prominently of his then-infant sons' diapers.  Since then, I've been leery of the stuff.

In the last decade, Pinot Noir, specifically from Willamette Valley, has skyrocketed in fame.  There are some absolutely lovely wines out there.  But I have to admit I've been unable to order it when out.  My husband, who is more of a beer connoisseur, helped me get over my phobia last weekend.  He ordered Chime Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley.  I'd opted for a bigger red in the form of a Cabernet Sauvignon to pair with my elk, but Chris ordered shrimp and pork and wanted something lighter.  This Pinot fit the bill. And then some.

The color was fabulous.  The bouquet, while light and a bit floral, hinted at some deeper fruit.  The flavor melted across my tongue.  I have to admit some jealousy at his choice because his wine stood up better to my meat as well.  This is one I would definitely serve at a party.
